250 million KILOMETERS OF GLASS FIBER

Hair-thin glass fibers make it possible to transport huge quantities of data quickly and securely across continents and oceans. The amount of raw material for optical data transmission technology, made of synthetic quartz glass supplied by Heraeus, adds up to about 250 million kilometers of glass fiber, or about the distance from the Sun to Mars. All of which means that Heraeus’ products are essential to communication.

High-tech fiber optics transfer vast quantities of data – entire feature-length movies can be downloaded in mere milliseconds. Heraeus provides ultrapure synthetic quartz glass tubes and cylinders for the manufacture of glass fibers.
